Ole Olsen (born May 5, 1863 in Tangemose at Starreklinte in Vallekilde Sogn , † October 5, 1943 in the Copenhagen district of Hellerup ) was a Danish film producer . He founded the production company Nordisk Film A / S .

Life

On April 23, 1905, Olsen opened the Biograf Theater, the second permanent cinema in Copenhagen. Since he supposedly wanted to show more high-quality films than were available at the time, he decided to set up his own production company. His first own film was about the funeral of King Christian IX, who died on January 29, 1906 .

After Olsen bought a piece of land in the Valby district to build a film studio , Nordisk Film was officially entered in the commercial register on November 6, 1906. This makes Nordisk Film, which is still based on the original site in Valby, the oldest still existing film production company in the world.

During the silent film era , Nordisk Film was one of the world's most successful film producers and was able to successfully market its films in numerous countries. After Olsen retired in 1924, however, the company slowly began to decline due to the rise of Hollywood and international talkies.

In 1933, Olsen bought Esterhøjhof at the foot of a hill in Esterhøj . Between 1936 and 1938 he built his own burial mound between two burial mounds from the Bronze Age . The bronze entrance door to Olsen's burial chamber is adorned with a polar bear , the symbol of his film company Nordisk Film. After his death in 1943, his urn was buried in a tomb in the burial chamber on the hill. Later, the urns of Olsen's wife and children were also buried in the burial chamber. According to a testamentary decree, his tomb is to be reopened on October 5, 2143, two hundred years after his death. The burial chamber was opened and desecrated by two unknown men in January 2010.
