Oleksiy Andriyovych Sadowen ( Ukrainian Олексій Андрійович Садовень , Russian Алексей Андреевич Садовень Alexei Sadowen ; born September 25, jul. / 7. October  1857 greg. In Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire , † 8. October 1919 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian physician and Rector of St. Vladimir University in Kiev.

Life

Oleksij Sadowen graduated from the medical faculty of the University of Kazan in 1880 and then worked as a freelance intern in the university's therapeutic clinic. From 1884 to 1886 he studied at the Military Medical Academy of Saint Petersburg . From 1886 he worked there in the medical department and from 1888 taught general and experimental pathology as an assistant professor. In 1889 he was sent on a scientific mission abroad together with other military doctors. On August 12, 1889, he came to the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Kiev as an associate professor and on April 9, 1900 he became a full professor and head of the department of medicinal chemistry. He taught pharmacology, physical and medicinal (biological) chemistry. In 1907 he was one of the organizers as well as a teacher at the medical department of the Kiev Girls' High School. In 1914, he was awarded the title of Full Professor at the University of Kiev . From 1913 to 1919 he was dean of the medical faculty and from November 29, 1917 to April 5, 1918 he was rector of Kiev University.

He died at the age of 62 in the university hospital in Kiev and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .
