Olenos (Achaia)

Olenos ( Greek  Ὄλενος ) was an ancient city ​​in Achaia .

It was probably a matter of a new founding of the Olenos situated across the strait in Aitolia . After Lycophron , some residents settled in Cyprus , and Diodorus tells of an emigration to Lesbos .

Olenos was one of the ancient twelve cities of Achaia, and its Damiurgs are said to have been represented in the first Achaean covenant . According to Pausanias, however, the inhabitants moved to other villages, which is why the city was when the federal government was re-established in 280 BC. No longer appears; in Hellenistic times, Olenos no longer existed.

Its exact geographic position has not yet been determined. It was on the Calydonian Gulf between Dyme and Patrai, on the northwest coast of the Peloponnese . The bay, once named after the Aetolian Kalydon , is now called the Gulf of Patras , Dyme corresponds to Kato Achaia, and the Patrai area has become an important port city as Patras . Ancient Olenos was probably near the present-day village of Tsoukalaiika.
