Olga Venecia Herrera Carbuccia

Olga Venecia Herrera Carbuccia (born 1956 ) is a judge at the International Criminal Court from the Dominican Republic .

Herrera Carbuccia comes from a family of lawyers, doctors, musicians and poets. She is the daughter of Mercedes Luisa Carbuccia Montalvo, one of the first doctors in San Pedro de Macorís, and Abelardo Herrera Peña, judge at the Supreme Court of the Dominican Republic.

She has two sisters and a brother: Dora Rosanna Herrera Carbuccia, pediatrician ; Vanesa Margarita Herrera Carbuccia, lawyer specializing in municipal issues; and Manuel Herrera Carbuccia, Supreme Court Justice of the Dominican Republic.

Herrera finished her studies with a doctorate at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in 1980. After that, from 1981 to 1984 she was the prosecutor of a magistrate's court and assistant to the prosecutor of Santo Domingo. From 1986 to 1991 she was a judge in a criminal division of the Court of First Instance in Santo Domingo and rose to the criminal division of the Court of Appeal, where she worked until 2003. At the end of her career as Chairman of the First Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Santo Domingo. From 2003 she was the Court President of the Criminal Division of the Court of Appeal for the Judicial Authority in Santo Domingo , Dominican Republic.

On December 15, 2011, she was elected Judge at the International Criminal Court . It was elected with 77 votes in the twelfth round of voting in the Assembly of States Parties. 73 would have been enough to win. She took up office on March 11, 2012. She currently sits in the Pre-litigation Department.
