Olin Chaddock Wilson (born January 13, 1909 in San Francisco , California - † July 13, 1994 in West Lafayette , Indiana ) was an American astronomer.

Wilson studied astronomy and physics at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1934 he received his doctorate from the California Institute of Technology .

He was a research fellow at the Mount Wilson Observatory .

He discovered stellar activity cycles analogous to the sun's 11-year sunspot cycle .

Together with Vainu Bappu, he discovered in 1957 a correlation between the width of Ca II lines in star spectra and the luminosity, the Wilson-Bappu effect .

In 1960 Wilson was elected to the National Academy of Sciences . In 1977 he was awarded the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship and in 1984 the Bruce Medal .

In 2007 the asteroid (12138) Olinwilson was named after him.
