Oliver Chesler (born January 20, 1970 ) is an American techno producer and DJ. He is better known under the name The Horrorist .

Live and act

After a few "normal" techno and acid productions as a disintegrator (together with John Selway ) and Koenig Cylinders , he came into contact with the then emerging New York hardcore techno scene ( Lenny Dee , Disciples Of Annihilation ) in the mid-1990s . As a member of the hardcore techno / gabber acts Temper Tantrum and DJ Skinhead (best known hit: "Extreme Terror") Chesler achieved a very good reputation in the scene, which he underpinned as a remixer . In 1996 he founded his own label Things to come Records (TTC), with which he is based in New York (years ago also in Berlin).

His successful publications as The Horrorist show that Oliver Chesler is not tied to any particular style . Musically only partly hardcore techno, more techno (partly with EBM influences), the titles describe life in New York. The 2001 publication Manic Panic deals with topics such as drugs or sex, combined with samples from Chesler's answering machine between the titles.

The 1996 track One Night in NYC is about a girl who is away from home for the first time and spends a night in a New York club with a man she does not know who gives her drugs to put her to bed to get. Through the remixes (among others by Chris Liebing ) from 2000 and numerous publications, the track achieved a high level of awareness. The track also became number 1 in the German Dance Charts . In many of his publications there shows his affinity for the EBM of the 1980s. He himself describes u. a. Depeche Mode as an important musical influence, probably not least because he was one of the so-called bus kids in their concert film 101 in 1988 . The album Manic Panic was also number 1 in the German alternative charts .
