Oliver Fehn (born December 19, 1960 in Münchberg ; † January 19, 2019 ) was a German writer of pop and underground literature. He published Satan's Manual , an occult work , in 2002 . This was the first German-language book whose author was Anton Szandor LaVey's "modern" Satanism .

life and work

Fehn grew up in a rural area. At 17 he published his first stories in men's and fashion magazines. He studied theology and religious studies , according to his own information "only out of interest and curiosity". In 1983 the collection of poems at the end of the rivers was published ; from 1987 Fehn was hardly active as a writer for a long time. During these years he lived in Berlin and New York City , among others, and earned his living as a journalist and magician.

After four years as a presenter at the underground rock broadcaster HO * T FM, Fehn resumed his writing activity in 2000 and published a number of novels, non-fiction books and essays in the following years . Alongside he translated more than 50 books from English / American and French, including in 2007, the winner of the PEN Award fiction book The End of Faith ( The End of Faith ) by Sam Harris , 2012 Mark Twain's last novel The Mysterious Stranger and In 2018 the novel Aufruhr der Engel by French Nobel Prize winner Anatole France, which is out of print in Germany .

Fehn's own novels and stories are set in reality, but often contain surreal elements and not infrequently deal with topics with the stigma of the sick and morbid. Typical examples of this tightrope walk between daily events and nightmare can be found in his books "Verfluchter Sommer" and "The Piano Bridge".

Oliver Fehn lived most recently from his work as a freelance author and translator. He was a member of the Church of Satan , which he left disappointed in April 2011.

For the last ten years or so of his life, Oliver Fehn refrained from reading and appearing in public and led a rather withdrawn life.

According to an obituary by his publisher Uwe Siebert, Fehn died on January 19, 2019 as a result of a serious illness.
