The VTR 1000 F is a sports touring motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Honda .
Sales description
The half-faired motorcycle was marketed from 1997 to 2006 in Europe with the additional designation "Fire Storm" and in the USA as "Super Hawk" and has the internal factory code SC 36. The abbreviation VTR stands for Vee-Twin Road , a V-engine with two cylinders for the road. The suffix F after the displacement class means fairing ( German cladding ).
The VTR 1000 SP1 and SP2 models with similar names are technically independent.
Technical specifications
drive
The liquid-cooled two - cylinder engine generates a nominal output of 81 kW (110 PS) (also 98 PS version) and a maximum torque of 101.1 Nm at a speed of 6636 min −1 from a displacement of 996 cm³ . The transversely installed V-engine has a cylinder angle of 90 degrees. The two cylinders have a bore of 98 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 66 mm with a compression ratio of 9.4: 1. Each cylinder head has two chain-driven, overhead camshafts , which control two intake and two exhaust valves via bucket tappets . The four-stroke engine is cooled by two side-mounted radiators . The fuel is prepared by two 48 mm constant pressure flat slide carburettors, the ignition by a digital transistor ignition with electronic advance adjustment. The exhaust gas aftertreatment is carried out by an uncontrolled catalytic converter with a secondary air system and is below the emission limit values of the Euro-2 emissions standard . The fuel tank holds 16 liters, of which 2.5 liters are in reserve.
The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 251 km / h (241 km / h with 98 hp).
Model year 2001
With model year 2001 some changes were made:
- Tank volume increased to 19 l
- Engine set-up changed to reduce fuel consumption
- Different tuning of the fork
- Flatter handlebar stubs
- LCD cockpit for fuel level, temperature, km counter and clock
- Honda Ignition Security System (HISS) included
landing gear
The chassis is based on an aluminum bridge frame and has a two-sided swing arm made of aluminum with Pro-Link and mono-spring strut. The crankshaft housing serves as a direct attachment for the swing arm. The front wheel is guided by a telescopic fork with a 41 mm standpipe diameter and 109 mm travel. The fork and shock absorber use the HMAS (Honda Multi-Action System) damper system, with cartridge damping at the front and adjustable rebound damping.
A Ø 296 mm double disc brake with four-piston brake calipers and sintered metal linings decelerates on the front tire, and a Ø 220 mm disc brake with a single-piston brake calliper at the rear. The tires of the type Dunlop-D204 have a size of 120/70 at the front and 180/55 at the rear. The three-spoke aluminum rims have a diameter of 43.2 cm at the front and rear. The steering head angle is 24 degrees, the caster 97 mm.
Power transmission
The primary drive takes place via gear wheels. The power is separated by a multi-plate wet clutch, the torque conversion by a transmission with six gears. The secondary drive has a chain drive .

Reviews
“Not a wolf, but also no sheep's clothing. The VTR offers rock-solid two-cylinder charm in well-known Honda perfection. That may seem too smooth to the typical two-cylinder clientele. For sporty bargain hunters, on the other hand, the 1000 is a worthwhile object - including a comfortably grumpy V2 orchestra. "
“[The] tank only holds 16 liters including a 2.5 liter reserve. This fact is all the more worrying because the VTR is really not economical with normal unleaded gasoline. With an average consumption of just over 8 liters per 100 km, the fun stops. Such a high consumption is absolutely no longer up-to-date and already requires a refueling break after relatively short stages. "
“Rock solid. Not just the engine. The Honda is well made, and with good care and regular maintenance, mileage far beyond 50,000 kilometers is no problem. "
