The Honda SC 45 is a motorcycle model in the super sports / superbikes category from the Japanese manufacturer Honda . The model was offered from 2000 to 2001 as VTR 1000 SP1 and from 2002 as VTR 1000 SP2. The Honda VTR 1000 SP1 was the successor to the Honda RVF 750 RC 45 . The SP2 itself has no direct successor model. In the USA the model was marketed as RVT 1000 R or RC 51. The similarly named model Honda VTR 1000 F is technically independent.

technology

engine

Used a completely new development came two-cylinder - four stroke - V-engine with 90 degree cylinder angle and 999 cc. Another new feature was the lateral arrangement of the water cooler to the left and right of the engine, not standing in front of the engine as usual. The ram-air air duct through the control head, which was later also used in the CBR 600 RR, was also innovative . The four overhead camshafts were again driven by gears , as in the two previous models RC 30 and RC 45 . This expensive and complex construction had meanwhile become the standard for Honda Superbike models. The electronic manifold injection , called PGM-FI , was mandatory .

landing gear

The chassis is based on a bridge frame and two-sided swing arm made of aluminum with a central spring strut and a 43 mm upside-down fork . Fork and shock absorber are fully adjustable in terms of spring base, rebound and compression damping.

Racing

The Honda SC45 was the homologation model for the Superbike World Championship in the years 2000 to 2002. Colin Edwards won the world championship in the years 2000 and 2002 with the racing version of the motorcycle called VTR1000 SP-W .

Nicky Hayden won the AMA Superbike Championship title in 2002 on a Honda RC 51.

Honda was able to win the 8 Hours of Suzuka four times in a row from 2000 to 2003 , including with drivers like Valentino Rossi , Daijirō Katō , Tōru Ukawa and Colin Edwards. In addition, there were deployments in the endurance world championship .

At the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man , Joey Dunlop won the TT-F1 class in 2000 on a Honda VTR 1000 SP1. A monument erected in his honor in 2001 shows him on a motorcycle.
