The Suzuki SV 1000 (S) is a naked bike ( sports touring ) motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki .
It was added to the range in 2003 as a larger-displacement variant of the SV 650 and filled the gap in the product range that had arisen due to the elimination of the TL1000 . Like its smaller sister, it was available in two versions: uncovered as SV1000 and with a half-shell as SV1000S with a shorter swing arm . In 2004 and 2005 the SV1000S was partly sold with factory-fitted full fairing (otherwise only available as an accessory).
Despite the engine praised in the trade press and the otherwise good reviews, the SV1000 could not establish itself in Germany and so the official import by Suzuki Germany was discontinued in 2005, despite almost 5,000 copies sold by then. In Switzerland, the 2006 model was officially introduced. The SV1000 was produced until 2008. This was still available after 2005 through gray import in Germany.
In 2005 there were changes to the exhaust system and the engine, which led to an increase in performance from 120 to 124 hp. From model year 2005 (K5), the motorcycle was delivered with a black frame, among other things. However, this only happened in other European countries. Since the SV 1000 / S was taken out of the program in Germany in 2005, only very few models with a black frame were included in the local registration statistics via gray imports.
The SV1000 engine was also used in a slightly modified form in the Suzuki DL 1000 V-Strom and in the Cagiva Raptor 1000.
In contrast to the smaller SV650, no anti-lock braking system was offered for the SV1000 . The top speed is 250 km / h with the SV1000S, the naked version reaches 242 km / h due to the poor aerodynamics.
