Oliver Goertsches (* 1981 in Cologne ) is a German mathematician and university professor .

Life and career

Goertsches graduated from high school at the age of 17 and then studied for a diploma at the University of Cologne . He received his doctorate in 2006 from Gudlaugur Thorbergsson with the thesis Riemannian Supergeometry .

After staying as a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn , at the University of California, Irvine , at the University of Cologne, as a junior professor at the University of Hamburg and as a professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , he accepted the position for a professorship at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Goertsches has a son with his wife Jessica Petraccaro-Goertsches.

Research activity

Goertsches' research area lies in the intermediate area of differential geometry and algebraic topology . The "Lie group effects on various geometric objects" and "Statements about the global structure of an object that can be deduced from the existence of a symmetry group of a certain type" play a special role in his research.

As a doctoral student, he moved to the SFB / Transregio 12. During his activity in Hamburg he was employed “in the Collaborative Research Center 676 and in the Graduate School 1670”. At the University of Marburg he works in the “Differential Geometry and Analysis” group.
