Oliver Hinz

Oliver Hinz (born April 10, 1974 in Giessen ) is a German economist and professor of business informatics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

academic career

Hinz studied business informatics from 1994 to 2001 with a focus on marketing, software engineering and graphic data processing at the Technical University of Darmstadt . After completing his studies, he worked for Dresdner Bank in the Private Banking division as a business logic developer until 2004 . From 2004 to 2008 he was a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and received his doctorate in October 2007 (Dr. rer. Pol). His dissertation is entitled “Interactive Price Mechanisms in Dynamic Markets”. In January 2009 he was appointed to the junior professorship for E-Finance & Electronic Markets at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University.

From 2011 to 2017 he was professor for business informatics and economics at the Technical University of Darmstadt. In September 2017 he accepted the professorship for business informatics and information management at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, previously held by Wolfgang König .

He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California , the University of Maryland, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . Since 2012, he and Thorsten Strufe have been researching the spread of news on social networks.

In the Handelsblatt ranking of the best business economists in German-speaking countries in 2014, Hinz was ranked 154th (2012: 216th) in the "Lifetime Achievement" category and 29th (2012: 59th) in the "Current Research Achievement" category.
