Oliver Mathai (born January 5, 1968 ) is a German racing car driver .

Career

Oliver Mathai started his professional motorsport career in the early 1990s. In 1993 he drove with Edgar Dören and Wolfgang Mathai in a Porsche 911 Carrera 2 in the Daytona 24-hour race and achieved 13th place in the overall standings. A year later he drove again with Olaf Manthey and Wolfgang Mathai in Daytona - but had to end the race prematurely due to engine failure.

From 1994 to 1997 and 2000 he competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany . He achieved his best result there in 1995 with the runner-up title. At the same time he drove in the Porsche Supercup from 1996 to 2001 and was able to win second place in the championship three times in a row between 1997 and 1999 behind Patrick Huisman .

In 2004 Mathai started one season for the JP Racing team with a Porsche 911 GT3 RS Type 996 in the N-GT class of the FIA GT championship . Together with Jens Petersen and Jan-Dirk Lüders he finished 19th in the N-GT classification and 34th in the overall classification. The following year he drove only the 1000 km race from Monza in the Le Mans Endurance Series for JP Racing and finished the race in 19th place.

After a break in 2006, he regularly competed in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring from 2007 to 2015 . There he only drove an Aston Martin Vantage racing car. He achieved his greatest successes in this race in 2008 on an Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 and in 2009 on an Aston Martin V12 Vantage, each with the SP8 class victory.

Mathai has been participating in racing events with classic racing vehicles since 2008. In 2008 he drove a Porsche 962C in third place in the Le Mans Legend . In 2018 and 2019 he started in the Classic Endurance Racing . There he placed 11th overall in 2019 with a Porsche 924 GTR .
