Oltcit special

Oltcit was a Romanian car brand. The small cars offered as Oltcit were produced successively from 1981 to 1995 by two different manufacturers at the same location.

The name is composed of that of the river Olt and that of the partner Citroën . The brand emblem is a simple helical toothing framed by a circle , which is based on the emblem of Citroën.

Oltcit SA

The company Oltcit SA was a joint venture founded in 1976 between the Romanian state and Citroën. It produced the Oltcit model from 1981. While the brand name Oltcit was used in Romania and Eastern Europe, the vehicles exported to Western Europe from 1984 to 1988 were sold as Citroën Axel . Unlike the Axel, the Oltcit was also sold with a smaller two-cylinder engine. Since production fell far behind schedule, most of the production was exported during this period. Since Citroën stopped working together in 1988, the units produced from that point on were sold as Oltcit .

Automobile Craiova

In 1991, Oltcit SA was renamed Automobile Craiova . In addition to the two-door sedan, a pick-up was also offered from 1993.

The change to the brand name Oltena took place between 1989, 1991 and 1994.
