The ½-mile track cycling men at the Olympic Games in 1904 in St. Louis was held on 2 August.
It was the first cycling competition of the Games. Only athletes from the United States took part in this. It has never been part of the Olympic program since.
Marcus Hurley , who won a total of four gold medals at the Games, prevailed in the finals by a wheel and a half ahead of Burton Downing . Bronze went to Edward Billington .

The two fastest drivers in a run qualified for the semi-finals. It is not known in which of the heats Joel McCrea and Oscar Schwab competed, they both finished fourth. The identity of two other athletes is unknown.
