In the 1956 Olympic Games in the Australian city of Melbourne was on 24 November at the Royal Exhibition Building , the weightlifting at lightweight held for men.
It won the Soviet Russian Igor Rybak ahead of his compatriot Rawil Chabutdinow and the South Korean Kim Chang-hee .
The athletes competed against each other in the so-called three-way battle. In addition to the usual disciplines of tearing and pushing, this also included pushing.
According to the competition regulations of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the body weight of every lightweight boxer had to be over 60.0 kg and no more than 67.5 kg.

Result
Five Olympic records were set during the competition: The winner Igor Rybak set three records with 380.0 kg (total) as well as 120.0 kg in snatch and 150.0 kg in push. The runner-up, his team-mate Rawil Chabutdinow , set an Olympic record in pushing with 125.0 kg, and South Korean Kim Chang-hee also set a record with 150.0 kg in pushing.
