Omar Haijawi-Pirchner (born February 26, 1980 ) is a brigadier in the Federal Police . Since August 1, 2017, he has been head of the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office and is the youngest official in such a position in Austria.

Career

Haijawi-Pirchner was born in the Gmünd district of Lower Austria as the son of a community doctor and graduated from the federal high school in Gmünd in 1998 . Haijawi-Pirchner joined the Federal Gendarmerie on November 1, 1999 and, after completing his basic training, performed his service at the gendarmerie post in Langenzersdorf in the Korneuburg district.

With effect from May 1, 2004, he was assigned to the criminal department of the Lower Austria Gendarmerie Command and used in a specially set up Soko.

After Haijawi-Pirchner completed his training as a civil servant (E2a basic training) from October 1, 2005 to April 30, 2006, he was finally transferred to the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office (formerly criminal department) and worked as an investigator in the investigation area of ​​life and limb (murder - and violent crimes). In the period up to 2011 he was there in some of the largest criminal cases in Austria in the respective investigation teams.

From October 1, 2008, he completed the officer training (E1 basic training) or the study of "Police Leadership" at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt , which he completed on August 31, 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts . After that, from September 1, 2011, he was employed as a senior officer in the Lower Austria Regional Police Command, Organization and Operations Department.

After a structural reform, Haijawi-Pirchner was finally transferred to the Schwechat City Police Command on April 1, 2012 and headed the department for border and foreign police matters at Vienna International Airport . Since May 1, 2013, he was also used as deputy city police commander.

From September 2012 he completed the master's degree in "Strategic Security Management" at the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences, which he completed on June 30, 2014 with a Master of Arts degree. He wrote his master's thesis on "The Vienna International Airport and its terrorist threat".

In the period from June 1, 2014 to August 31, 2014, he was temporarily assigned to the Federal Ministry of the Interior , Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism .

Effective August 1, 2017, he was appointed head of the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office and has since been a regular press spokesman.

In February 2019, a special investigation group set up at the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office, under the direction of Haijawi-Pirchner, uncovered a gang operating across Europe that caused damage of several hundred million euros with the help of investment fraud (binary options).

Private

He is married, has two children and lives with his family in the Bruck an der Leitha district .
