Omar Sey (medical doctor)

Omar Sey (* in the 20th century) is a politician and doctor. He was Minister of Health and Social Welfare ( English Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare ) of the West African state of Gambia .

Life

After finishing school, Sey attended the Gambia College from 1982 to 1985 and graduated with a diploma in nursing. Further stations in his educational path were the Kenya Medical Training College (1993-1994) with a diploma in ophthalmology and the University College London (2001-2002) with a master's degree in ophthalmology. On a scholarship, Sey studied hospital administration and health management at the National Institute of Public Health Japan in 2004 .

From 2004 to 2009 he was director of the AFPRC General Hospital in Farafenni . In October 2009 he was appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the post he held until 2011. From 2011 to 2012 he was hospital director of the Aga Khan Health Service in Afghanistan. From October to July 2013 he was appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary Admin / Finance in the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. In August 2013, Omar Sey was appointed to succeed Bala Garba-Jahumpa as Minister of Health and Social Affairs in Yahya Jammeh's cabinet.

On January 16, 2017, Sey submitted his resignation as minister shortly before the term of the expelled President Jammeh ended. He was just in Geneva to attend the WHO conference on January 18, 2017. At the end of January it became known that Sey was applying for asylum in Geneva .
