Omdulö is a six-member "Experimentalfolk" band from Altenburg in Thuringia , which expands existing folk and medieval structures with the help of electronically generated atmospheres.
Omdulö consist of five musicians who combine various folk, medieval instruments and world / ethnomusic percussion. Specifically, they are Annemarie Heinig (hurdy-gurdy, flutes), Susanne Ebert (vocals, flutes) Florian Müller (guitar, bouzouki, nyckelharpa), Lydia Hörtzsch (bodhran, percussion) and Jan Gawlik (drums, percussion, didgeridoo).
After the self-directed demo Lintu in 2008 , which still dealt mainly with medieval themes and consisted to a large extent of traditional songs, folk and pagan elements were increasingly used in their pieces in the winter of 2008/2009.
With their first album Waldgeboren (2009), which was recorded in the band's own rehearsal room over a weekend and completed within a short time, the band made people sit up and take notice. Invitations to the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2009 in Leipzig (Heidnisches Dorf) and Festival-Mediaval III in Selb followed. The album was distributed on USB sticks with a finished CD booklet.
Omdulö has already played at various festivals, such as B. at the Nocte Mediavalis (Bärenzwinger Dresden), at the World Music Festival (Hafenstraße eV Meißen) and at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2010 . Omdulö won the "Golden Dwarf" 2010 - Festival-Mediaval, as the best young band in medieval / folk music. Internationally they occurred z. B. 2011 at Castlefest , Lisse and the Summer Darkness Festival , Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Her second album, Menschenmaler , was released on normal music CD after some delay on March 25, 2011. The album was presented on January 8, 2011 at the Record Release Party.
On January 9th, 2015 the album "Palimpsest" was released, on which Count Lindorf from the band Coppelius was a guest musician on the cello.
The name Omdulö is made up of the syllable "OM" (from drums), "DU" (from bagpipes) and "LÖ" (from flutes).
