Oncostatin-M (OSM) is a protein produced by mammals in activated leukocytes . It is a cytokine that is part of the signaling cascade that controls hematopoiesis . In addition, OSM is involved in the inflammatory response . It is capable of the sprouting of several cancer - cell lines to influence positive or negative.

OSM is produced in the bone marrow and lymphatic system in direct response to IL-2 , IL-3 and EPO . In turn, it exerts its effects on OSM receptors , of which there are two types. OSM stimulates the growth of endothelial cells and their production of plasminogen activator , G-CSF , GM-CSF , P-selectin and IL-6 . OSM belongs to the IL-6 subfamily of cytokines.
