Ondřej z Brodu

Ondřej z Brodu (German Andreas von Brod ; Latin Andreas de Broda ; † 1427 ) was a Czech theologian and professor at the Charles University in Prague . In 1407 he held the post of rector .

Life

Andreas von Brod studied theology at Charles University in Prague, where he received a baccalaureate in 1384 and a master's degree three years later . In 1388 he received his doctorate in theology. In 1407 he was elected rector of Charles University . From 1412 to 1418 he was canon of the Vyšehrad collegiate monastery of St. Peter and Paul and a member of the All Saints chapter at Prague Castle .

Although he was one of the supporters of the Kuttenberg Decree in 1409 , which changed the proportion of votes in the bodies in favor of the Czech nation, he testified publicly against Jan Hus at the Council of Constance . In addition, he rejected his teaching and the reforms he was seeking. That is why he had to leave Bohemia in 1419, like the German professors at Charles University in 1409. Like them he went to Leipzig, where he taught at the university .

Andreas von Brod left numerous tracts and diatribes in which he turned against the teachings of the Hussites .
