One Must Fall (short: OMF ) is a fighting game series for DOS . The first game was developed by Diversions Entertainment and published by Epic Megagames in 1994 . The website of the game series and the manufacturer have not been accessible since 2009, but archived versions existed in the Internet Archive .

action

In One Must Fall: 2097 , large robots fight in arenas equipped with some traps. In addition to the elaborately staged locations and the tournament mode, the electronic background music was one of the highlights of the game at that time. For each of the 11 available robots there are different moves - actions which e.g. B. fire special weapons, teleport the player to other locations or enable stronger attacks. In addition to the robots, you can choose one of ten characters who will control the robot. The characters have different properties which are also transferred to the robot and thus a good combination is just as important for a victory as mastering the game mechanics.

It is possible to play the game in pairs via the keyboard or joystick and to fight the battles over a network.

Development history

The game was developed independently by the brothers Rob and Ryan Elam, except for the sound system and music. The music came from Kenny Chow, a demoscener known by the alias CCCatch , who composed it in the S3M format of the Scream Tracker 3.0.

One must fall beta

However, the game was only a preliminary version ( beta version ) to test the controls and moves and was later released as One Must Fall 2097 . The game principle and other aspects of the later version differed significantly from the beta version.

Since the original DOS game from 1994 still uses IPX networking and is a pain to set up, the community needed a better solution to keep playing the game we love. Together with networking, we try to make it easier to play One Must Fall in original glory on multiple platforms (Linux, Mac OSX, Windows, BSD to name a few), although it might take some time to set it up.
