Online advice against right-wing extremism
The online counseling against right-wing extremism is an anonymously usable Internet contact point for people who are directly or indirectly confronted with right-wing extremist thinking, behavior or violence. Advice is provided by the Verein Gegen Vergessen - Für Demokratie . Due to its low threshold and constant availability, the pilot project is a nationwide unique project of supraregional importance.
tasks and goals
Online counseling against right-wing extremism was set up in May 2008 as a supplement to the existing counseling options in this area. As an offer that can be used virtually and anonymously, it aims to avoid an excessive inhibition threshold and is therefore aimed at people who would not seek conventional advice due to physical distance, shame or fear.
On the one hand, the target group is people who want general information about right-wing extremism. On the other hand, people of all ages are to be reached who are confronted with right-wing extremism in their private or professional environment. This includes both people who are directly threatened and those who come into contact with right-wing extremist thinking and acting through relatives, friends, neighbors, classmates or colleagues and see this as a burden. The advice is also open to dropouts from the right-wing extremist scene.
consultation
Advice is provided by e-mail , individual chat or moderated group chat via an SSL- secured server and is carried out by professional consultants. In addition to email counseling, there is the possibility of agreeing times for individual chats. For certain groups of people, such as parents, or on certain topics, protected and moderated group chats are also offered at set times, in which interested and affected persons can also exchange information anonymously.
The offer of online counseling against right-wing extremism is designed for long-term support in order to accompany those seeking advice through a process from becoming aware of and identifying the respective problem to developing possible solutions. However, it can also be used as the first point of contact, from which those seeking advice can be referred to facilities in their vicinity.
The topic of counseling can be all situations in which those directly or indirectly affected are confronted with right-wing extremism, for example in the areas of family, school, sport and work.
information
In addition to advice, online advice also aims to provide general information and clarification. The website offers research options (such as publications, addresses and right-wing extremist keywords), and visitors will also find numerous examples of the confrontation with right-wing extremism in various everyday areas. Information on relevant clothing brands and linguistic codes of the right-wing extremist scene should also raise awareness. The consultancy also operates a channel on YouTube.
Perception in the media
Online counseling against right-wing extremism is experiencing increasing awareness by regional and national media, most recently also in connection with an issue of the increasing appropriation of internet portals and social media by right-wing extremist groups, as stated in the annual report of jugendschutz.net. Employees of the facility also have their say in the ZDF documentary “New brown wave”.
Sponsorship and funding
The online counseling against right-wing extremism is a pilot project of the Verein Gegen Vergessen - Für Demokratie and is funded by the Federal Agency for Civic Education and the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth as part of the project “ Diversity is good until 2010”.
Cooperation and network
Online advice works closely with the jugendschutz.net facility and the Federal Agency for Civic Education, especially with the right-wing extremism dossier . In addition, it is part of a broad network of advisory institutions.
