The onomato Verlag is a German audio book publisher - now also producing printed books - based in Düsseldorf , which focuses on philosophy , literature and the visual arts . The name "onomato" is derived from the compound onomatopoeia and thus indicates the importance the publisher attaches to an aesthetic (vocal) figure. The Düsseldorf onomato Association for Media Art emerged from the publishing house .

history

In 1998, Axel Grube , who is still the publisher's manager now, brought the "onomato Verlag" into being. His interest, which is clearly evident in the publisher's products, is finding previously “unheard of” intellectual connections.

Very soon, as early as 1999, in a conversation opened by the publisher about media aesthetics, an art association developed from the publisher's project, which is still in close contact with the publisher to this day. Participants in the “onomato association” sponsored by the Düsseldorf cultural office include a. the filmmaker Joachim Rüsenberg, the photographer Katharina Mayer a . a.

program

The onomato publishing program has developed: starting from an extensive audio book edition of the Grimms Märchen about readings by Nietzsche, whose main works were recorded, Heine , Hölderlin , Kierkegaard , Hannah Arendt , Hans Jonas and many more. Currently, one focus of the publisher's work is the publication on Franz Kafka and his intellectual environment (especially in relation to Max Brod and Felix Weltsch ). In this context, the expansion of the publishing program to include printed books is becoming apparent, which began with a literary edition organized by Alexander Nitzberg .
