Katharina Mayer

Katharina Mayer (* 1958 in Rottweil ) is a German photographer and video artist .

Career

In 1982 Katharina Mayer began studying art history in Freiburg im Breisgau , which she finished in 1987. She then went to Düsseldorf to study photography at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In 1993 she completed her studies with Bernd Becher and Nan Hoover .

In 1995 she taught photography at the Kulturforum Neuss . In 1996 she received a teaching position for photography at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and at the Federal Academy for Cultural Education in Wolfenbüttel . In 1998 she co-founded the "onomato" , a Düsseldorf artist video and sound archive (within the framework of the onomato artists' association, which was created in conjunction with the onomato publishing house ). From 2000–2013 she and Birgitta Thaysen directed the school for artistic photography in Düsseldorf.

Since 2012 she has been heading the photography course at the Berlin Technical Art College (BTK), Iserlohn campus.
