Eva Mahn

Eva Mahn (born January 11, 1947 in Aschersleben ) is a German art scholar, university professor and photographer who lives in Halle (Saale) today.

Life

In 1964 she completed her Abitur at the extended secondary school "Thomas Müntzer" Aschersleben and at the same time completed her apprenticeship as a locksmith at VEB WEMA and ABUS Aschersleben with a skilled worker certificate. Mahn married while studying art history, history and art education in Greifswald and Leipzig (1965–1970) and moved from Greifswald to Leipzig. In 1972 she separated from her husband and two years later they moved from Leipzig to Halle. In 1977 their daughter Mira was born.

Academic career

From 1970 to 1972 Eva Mahn was a research assistant and from 1972 to 1996 she was also a research assistant at the Art College Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale) in the art department. As an art scholar, she was active in research, teaching and journalism. She often acted as a juror, exhibition curator and academic companion of symposia in the fields of handicrafts , design , building-related art and architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1991 the doctorate to Dr. phil. at the University of Leipzig with her publication on "German Romantic Glass Painting 1790-1850". From 1992 to 1996 Eva Mahn was the head of the collection for art and design at the Burg-Giebichenstein University for Art and Design Halle. From 1969 to 1977 Eva Mahn worked part-time as a model for the fashion magazines " Sybille " (Berlin), "Saison" and "Modische Maschen" (Leipzig). From 1994 to 1997 she was a member of the jury for the German Youth Photo Award and the Kodak Young Talent Award for young photographers. Since 1995 she has been teaching the basics of photography in the art department of the Burg-Giebichenstein University for Art and Design Halle.

She was appointed to the German Society for Photography (DGPh) in 1996, where she was also a board member from 1998 to 2000.

In 1998 Eva Mahn was appointed to the German Photographic Academy (DFA), where she has been Vice President since 2001. In 2000 she was the coordinator for the symposium and exhibition program of the DGPh "Photography on the threshold of the new millennium" in Halle (Saale).
