Florence Hervé (born April 17, 1944 in Boulogne sur Seine ) is a Franco- German journalist and women's rights activist.

Life

Hervé was born in the Paris suburb of Boulogne-Billancourt and grew up in Ville-d'Avray . After graduating from high school in 1961, she studied German in Bonn , Heidelberg and Paris , where she graduated with the state examination in 1976 and did her doctorate in German.

In 1963 she received the translator's diploma at the interpreting institute in Heidelberg and in 1972 the diploma Mémoire de Maitrise in Paris. Since 1969 she has been a freelance journalist ( Réforme , Deutsche Volkszeitung , Frankfurter Rundschau , Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , Junge Welt, etc.) and active in women's political associations and initiatives. She was one of the founders of the Democratic Women's Initiative and is co-editor of the magazine and of the “women's calendar” ( We Women ), which has been published annually since 1979 . She has been involved in the European and international women's movement since 1975: from 1994 to 2002 in the leadership of the International Democratic Women's Federation and from 1996 to 2004 in the women's initiative "Freedom for Leyla Zana ".

Her main focus of work as an author and editor is dealing with fascism and colonialism, the history of anti-fascist resistance and the situation of women in the countries of the south and north.

In 2014 she was to be awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . However, she refused to accept it. In their justification it says: An insufficient processing of the Nazi past, an inconsistent fight against open and latent neo-Nazism and racism and an insufficient recognition of the anti-fascist resistance - beyond July 20, 1944 and the White Rose - unfortunately continue to characterize politics and that Understanding of history of the Federal Republic. If I were to accept the award, I would also find myself in a row with such previous award winners who were Nazis or Nazi perpetrators. As far as I know, with one exception none of them was subsequently revoked the Cross of Merit. Incidentally, that would be an easy undertaking that also served to come to terms with history. She also points out that she does not want to give the impression that she has made her peace with the ruling system.

Hervé lives in Düsseldorf and in the Finistère department . She has two daughters.
