Ontario Institute for Cancer Research
The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is a non-profit research facility for cancer and tumor diseases headquartered in Toronto , Ontario , Canada . The research facility researches new techniques for early cancer detection, prevention, diagnosis and destruction of the cancerous tumor. The research institute was founded in 2005 by the Ontario provincial government. The research institution receives its budget from the Ministry of Research and Innovation . The research institute employs around 200 people at its headquarters, the MaRS Center . Furthermore, more than 300 scientists are employed at the respective hospital research institutes as well as at the research institutes of the universities in Ontario.

Research Center
The research center at the headquarters in Toronto comprises three laboratories with more than 5,233 m². These are located in the MaRS Center in downtown Toronto in the Discovery District . The University of Toronto and the University Health Network are in the neighborhood . This includes the Princess Margaret Hospital, the Toronto General Hospital , the Hospital for Sick Children and the Mount Sinai Hospital. The area is thus located north of Toronto's financial district . Additional research centers funded by OICR are located in Hamilton , Kingston , London , Ottawa , Sudbury , Thunder Bay and Waterloo .
Many large international pharmaceutical manufacturers have research headquarters in the Discovery district on the MaRS site. These include GE Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Interface Biologics, Kanata Chemical Technologies and the McLaughlin Center for Molecular Medicine.
