Open source press

Open Source Press was a computer book publisher founded in 2003 as an independent specialist book publisher based in Munich . The publishing house was founded by Markus Wirtz, who was previously editor-in-chief at SuSE Press . As of December 31, 2015, the publisher ceased operations.

The publisher sold its books both in traditional book form and digitally as e-books , specialized in Linux and open source software and aimed at administrators , programmers and users . The publisher published books in both German and English. Some books are now also released as free open books, so u. a. the translation of the book Free Culture of Law - Professor Lawrence Lessig , of the pioneers of the Creative Commons must be counted. Open Source Press stated that it was obliged to make a contribution to the open source community and, in particular, to help open source gain more recognition. For example, on the occasion of FrOSCon 2009 , the publisher sponsored the publication of free documentation in book form.
