Open Your Eyes ( English for " Open your eyes ") is a song by German crossover - band Guano Apes . The song is the first single from their debut album Proud like a God and was released on August 25, 1997.

The song is about questioning yourself and your actions. So one should open one's eyes and not think of oneself as something better than others. One should help others and live one's dreams instead of being trapped in oneself and just growing up quickly.

The song was produced by the German music producer Wolfgang Stach . The lyrics were written by the singer Sandra Nasić and the music was composed by the Guano Apes.

Music video

In the To Open Your Eyes twisted music video Jeannine Panaccione directed.

It shows the band playing the song in the foyer of a hotel with no audience while the staff just walk around and vacuum clean, bored. An inspector comes by several times and the employees try to appear professional. Another scene shows Sandra Nasić in a glass case while she is scanning the pane.

Open Your Eyes entered the German charts at number 88 on February 9, 1998 and reached the highest position on March 23, 1998 at number 5. Overall, the song stayed in the top 100 for 24 weeks, including five weeks in the top 10. In the 1998 German annual charts, the single was 33rd. In addition, Open Your Eyes reached the top 20 in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands.
