ORS 1 or ORS-1 (from English Operationally Responsive Space-1 ) is a military reconnaissance satellite of the USA that was developed for the Operationally Responsive Space Program (English Operationally Responsive Space Program ).

more details

The satellite, built by the Goodrich Corporation as prime contractor, was launched on June 30, 2011 at 03:09:00 UTC from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia with a Minotaur 1 rocket . It is used to obtain intelligence information as well as for surveillance and reconnaissance purposes and is intended to supplement the capacities for image acquisition by reconnaissance aircraft over Central Asia and particularly over Afghanistan. The program is coordinated by the Air Force Wing for the development and testing of space applications (Space Development and Test Wing, SDTW). The basis for the development of the satellite is the ORS / JWS satellite bus (also called RSMB) from Alliant Techsystems , which was already used in a similar form for the TacSat 3 satellite , but with ORS 1 also has its own drive system. TacSat 3 served as a prototype for ORS 1. The service life is planned to be at least one year, with the fuel on board sufficient for two to four years of operation, depending on the number of maneuvers to be carried out and necessary position corrections. The main payload is an electro-optical infrared camera system called Senior Year Electro-optical Reconnaissance System 2 (SYERS-2) from Goodrich Corporation, which is also used in a similar form in the Lockheed U-2 .

Its successors are ORS-3 , ORS-4 , ORS-5 and ORS-6 (formerly ORS-2 ).
