Halahult Sacrificial Grove
The Halahult sacrificial grove ( Halahults Offerlund in Swedish ) is located in a wood near Halahult, around 20 kilometers northeast of Karlshamn in Blekinge in Sweden .
On a natural terrace on a slope there is an irregular circle of five massive boulders. Each stone has carved, pictorial angular or round bowl-shaped recesses or runes . Among the motifs are a paw print, a human foot sole ( Swedish Fötter utanför ) and the lower part of a hand mill . The runes date from the 13th and 14th centuries.
According to tradition, sacrifices were made here in the 17th century. It is not believed to be a pagan sacrificial site, but it is a remarkable cultural and historical site that has been under protection since 1988.
