Sacrificial stone near Pustow

The sacrificial stone near Pustow is a boulder in the municipality of Sassen-Trantow in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The stone is located in a field, about 800 meters southeast of the Pustow exit, about 100 meters southwest of the road between Pustow and Groß Zastrow.

The stone is about 2.4 meters high, 4.2 meters long and 3.6 meters wide. The volume is about 19 cubic meters, the mass is estimated at 40 tons. The stone only partially protrudes from the earth. It consists of Rapakiwi (Pyterlitic granite ) and is characterized by red and gray granite and feldspar crystals up to 5 cm long . The stone was brought to its place of discovery from the Åland Islands through ice age glaciers .

The boulder, which is partly overgrown with lichen, has a slightly weathered surface and a borehole at the tip. It is regarded as a sacrificial or bowl stone and is protected as a ground monument.
