Ophioparma ventosa is a crusty lichen and the only representative of the mainly arctic-boreal genus in Germany . The genus Ophioparma consists of only two species (still O. lapponica ).
description
The species has a crusty, yellowish-green to yellowish-gray lichen body, the so-called camp. The blood-red fruiting bodies ( apothecia ) with the bearing edge often pushed back are noticeable. The pigment of the apothecia turns blue with potassium hydroxide .
Occurrence
The species occurs in high-montane to alpine, precipitation-rich locations on lime-free silicate rock (especially metamorphic and magmatite ). Locations with frequent and strongly changing moisture conditions, on fully rained sloping and vertical surfaces are preferred. The species can descend to up to 500 m in open log heaps.
Others
With an extract of the "blood-eye lichen" you get red to rust-brown colors when dyeing fabrics.
