Opinio
Opinio was a Dutch weekly political magazine published in 2007 and 2008. It appeared on Fridays and the editorial office was in Amsterdam .
history
Opinio was founded by Jaffe Vink, who was previously the head of the “Letter & Geest” supplement for the daily Trouw . Vink headed this supplement for 18 years since its inception and made it an internally controversial part of the newspaper, as it was there in a provocative manner against multiculturalism and political Islam . This led to tension with the editor-in-chief, so that Vink left the newspaper in mid-2006 and founded Opinio , whose editor-in-chief he also became. The first edition appeared in January 2007 according to own information with a circulation of 350,000 copies.
The paper was funded by the former Philips manager Roel Pieper, who also acted as editor. Huib Schreurs, who previously held the same position at De Groene Amsterdammer, took over the management .
Opinio was printed on rose-colored paper and did not contain photos, drawings, or advertisements. Vink called the political orientation of his magazine "left-conservative". In addition to five editors, around 30 freelancers worked for the paper, including Anne Applebaum , Frits Bolkestein , Afshin Ellian , Hans Jansen , Bernard-Henri Lévy and Xandra Schutte .
The aim was a print run of 50,000. Since the magazine did not print any advertisements, the circulation was not determined by the Oplage Instituut . At the beginning of June 2008 Pieper withdrew his financial support for Opinio due to the circulation of only 5,000 copies, which was followed by the immediate suspension.
Internet
The magazine's website offered an audio subscription, with which all articles in the magazine could be accessed in a read-out version. A version for mobile devices and RSS - web feed, were also present.
