Oplurus is a genus from the family of Madagascar lizards (Opluridae). The genus occurs in arid areas and dry forests in the south and west of Madagascar , as well as in isolated areas in the north-west and the central highlands of the island. The Cuviers Madagascar iguana ( Oplurus cuvieri ) is the only species of the genus to be found on Grande Comore .

features

Oplurus species are very similar in appearance and way of life to the African agamas (Agamidae). They are medium-sized lizards up to 40 cm long. They differ from the genus Chalarodon from the same family, among other things, in the large, whorled scales of the tail.
