Opuntia depauperata is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet depauperata means '(Latin depauperatus) impoverished, poorly developed'.

description

Opuntia depauperata has low shrubbery, is richly branched and forms flat groups with heights of 10 to 20 centimeters. The dark green, velvety, slightly sloping, twisting to slightly flattened shoot sections are 3 to 12 inches long and 2 to 3 inches thick. The glochids that appear later are yellow. The two to six needle-like, almost protruding thorns are reddish to light brown and 1 to 2.5 centimeters long.

Nothing is known about the flowers and fruits .

Distribution and systematics

Opuntia depauperata is common in the north of Venezuela .

The first description was in 1919 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose .
