Opuntia tomentella is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tomentella means '(Latin tomentellus) something felty'.
description
Opuntia tomentella grows shrubby. A tribe is not trained. The more or less shiny light green, downy, obovate to elongated shoot sections are 20 to 30 centimeters long and 9 to 15 centimeters wide. Their small areoles are about 3 centimeters apart and have only a few glochids . The one or two needle-like, protruding, white, up to 1 centimeter long thorns can also be missing.
The reddish yellow flowers reach lengths of 5 to 6 centimeters. The elongated red fruits are sour.
Distribution and systematics
Opuntia tomentella is common in Guatemala .
The first description by Alwin Berger was published in 1912.
