Opuntia undulata is a species of plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet undulata means '(Latin undulatus) wavy, wavy curved'.
description
Opuntia undulata grows tree-shaped, is tall and openly branched. A trunk up to 30 centimeters thick is formed. The initially yellowish green, shiny, often wavy, firm and hard-fleshed, obovate shoot sections become dark green over time. They are 35 to 55 centimeters wide. Their small areoles are close together and have glochids up to 1 millimeter long . The usually single white thorn , occasionally two to four are formed, sometimes it is absent, is protruding, sometimes twisted and 1 to 1.5 centimeters long.
The flowers are creamy white. The orange-tinged red fruits are 9 to 10 centimeters long and 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter.
Distribution and systematics
Opuntia undulata is believed to have originally come from the Mexican state of Aguascalientes . The species is widely cultivated.
