Oquaga Creek State Park is a state park in the parish of Masonville and Sanford in Ontario Counties , New York , United States. The park covers an area of 1385 acres and extends into the counties of Broome , Delaware and Chenango . The Broome County Road 241 runs through the park.
geography
The park is part of a larger network of state parks and state forests. It forms the transition between the directly adjacent Arctic China State Forest in the east and the Melondy Hill State Forest in the northwest. This network also includes Beals Pond State Forest about 2 km away in the northeast of the park, as well as Steam Mill State Forest and Barbour Brook State Forest . At the heart of Oquaga Creek State Park is Arctic Lake , covering 55 acres (22 hectares). The Arctic Lake is fed by two source streams of Oquaga Creek , which flow into the lake from the north. The drain is at the southern end of the lake, where a small dam wall raises the water level. The Oquaga Creek runs from there in a large arc initially to the southwest and then later turns again to the east to flow into the West Branch Delaware River ⊙ in Sanford . The park area is the hill country between the Susquehanna River and the Delaware River . From the valley floor (460 m above sea level ) on Arctic Lake, the mountain slopes in the north and south of the lake rise to around 630 m. The area in which the campsites are located are slightly flatter hills in the northeast, between the source streams.
Freetime activities
The park offers fishing on Arctic Lake and has a swimming beach. In winter there are opportunities for ice fishing and ice skating. There are more than 90 parking spaces for camping and other camping facilities. There is a course for disc golf from 1979 and 8 km of hiking trails. The park is known for being able to pick a lot of wild berries. There is also a considerable fauna and flora.
