Order of the Doge
The Order of the Doge was one of several orders of knights in the Republic of Venice . This order was an award next to the state of the republic. It was donated and awarded by the Doge as lord of the state on his own responsibility and therefore bore the name. The foundation date is not known.
Order decoration
The order decoration was a golden Maltese cross , a twelve-pointed blue. enamelled, gold-rimmed cross. In the middle shield was the winged lion of St. Mark .
The order became extinct with the fall of the republic in 1798.
