Ordoño III. (* around 926 in Zamora ; † 956 ) was the son of King Ramiro II of León . He was King of León from 951 to 956.

He fought against the Kingdom of Navarre and the Kingdom of Castile , which supported his stepbrother Sancho I of León , who denied Ordoños claim to the throne.

This was not the only challenge of his reign. Besides his stepbrother, he had to fight the Moors from Al-Andalus and a rebellion in Galicia . In the fight against the Muslims Ordoño III sent. his army in 955 as far as Lisbon . After this show of strength, an agreement was reached between Ordoño III. and the Caliph of Cordoba Abd ar-Rahman III.

Ordoño tried his father's policy of strengthening León's position to continue. He married the daughter of the Count of Castile Fernán González , Urraca Fernández, but later rejected her because her father was allied with Sancho I.

Urraca bore him at least two children, a son named Ordoño who died early and a daughter named Teresa who became a nun. Ordoño III. was also the father of Bermudo II of León . However, it is not certain whether this was a son of Urraca or a niece of Prince Pelayo and lover Ordoños III. came from.
