Gauge : 1435 mm ( standard gauge )

The Oregon Pacific Railroad was built by Thomas Egenton Hogg in the 1870s . It connected Yaquina Bay to Boise , Idaho .

history

The route led from Yaquina Bay through Corvallis and up the Santiam River to the foot of the cascade range . It was opened to traffic in 1884. Traffic was less than hoped because the entrance to Yaquina Bay harbor turned out to be too shallow after two steamers ran aground there. In 1890, Oregon Pacific defaulted on its bonds and went bankrupt.

It was auctioned for $ 100,000 in 1894 and reopened as the Oregon Central and Eastern Railroad with € 3 million in new capital. The Corvallis and Eastern Railroad emerged from it in 1897 and was eventually sold to the Southern Pacific Railroad for $ 1.4 million . Today the sections from Mill City to Lebanon and from Albany to Toledo are still used by two different operators.
