Oreste F. Pucciani

Oreste Francesco Pucciani (born April 7, 1916 in Cleveland , † April 28, 1999 in Los Angeles ) was an American Romance scholar, literary scholar and foreign language teacher.

life and work

Pucciani studied at Case Western Reserve University (graduated in 1939) and received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1943 with the thesis The Literary reputation of Walt Whitman in France (New York 1987). Then he stayed in France and Italy. From 1948 to 1979 he taught at the University of California in Los Angeles , from 1960 as a full professor.
Pucciani was particularly familiar with the work of Jean-Paul Sartre , with whom he also had personal contact. As a student of Émile B. De Sauzé , Pucciani was methodically involved in teaching foreign languages ​​at his university.
Pucciani was a Knight of the Legion of Honor (1965).
