The organ of the Protestant church in Leun was built in 1808 by the brothers Philipp Heinrich and Johann Georg Bürgy .

Building history

Little is known of the previous organs. When the citizens of Leun wanted to buy a new organ in 1680, they were forbidden to do so, as the city wall was to be improved first. The purchase price of today's organ was donated by a Leuner who had made money in England, as an inscription on the prospectus still shows today. The organ has a large sound spectrum for its comparatively small size (from today's perspective) thanks to the very different timbres of the registers .

The organ underwent some modifications: in 1917 it lost its prospect pipes , which were melted down into ammunition during the war, and a few years later the reed pipes crumhorn and trombone .

After some damage had been repaired in a makeshift manner, the organ was finally relocated to a new gallery in the aisle in the seventies, contrary to warnings. A report by an expert prevented further modifications. He stated: "It is highly recommended to bring this Bürgy organ back to its old state, as it is a good monument." The reconstruction of the missing tongue registers was carried out in 2008 by Orgelbau Mebold ( Siegen ).
