Orhan Kural

Orhan Kural (* 1950 in Istanbul ) is an eccentric Turkish travel book writer, professor of mineralogy and the second chairman of the engineering faculty at the İstanbul Teknik University .

Kural is one of the most famous Turkish environmental activists and a pioneer of the anti-smoking movement. He has received 532 awards and plaques of thanks in Turkey for his efforts in environmental protection . He gives free conferences to schools on the subject of environmental protection if he is invited to do so. According to his website, the number of conferences he has held in the past is now over 2500 in a total of 30 countries. He is also Deputy Honorary Consul of Ghana and the 1st Honorary Consul of Benin in Istanbul. He also volunteered to represent the Guinness Book of Records in Turkey for a while. Kural is also the founding president of the only Turkish globetrotter association Gezginler Kulübü . His life was re-enacted as a play entitled The Turkish Don Quixote . Kural's travel photographs have been shown in 36 solo exhibitions so far. Furthermore, Kural moderates a weekly radio program on the subject of travel on the Turkish broadcaster Yön Fm . In the past, Kural has hosted several television programs and written articles for the left-liberal Turkish daily Milliyet .

Works

Orhan Kural's writing activity focuses primarily on individual travel reports, in which he reports in a total of ten books on 189 countries he has visited. However, his writing activity is not limited to writing travel books. Among other things, Kural wrote his autobiography and published three books in English and one book in Turkish on the subject of coal. One of his English books with the name Coal has been included in the Guinness Book of Records with the world record of having the most forewords from a total of 22 heads of state .

He has also published a book with environmental poems. In the books Sefername 1 and Sefername 2 ( Engl .: travel), Kural was one of the 50 authors represented there with short stories on the subject of travel. Orhan Kural is also the author of a math book.
