The Orión Passage ( Spanish Paso Orión ) is a strait with an east-west orientation in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It connects the English Strait in the east with the Drake Strait in the west between Greenwich Island in the south and Dee Island in the north .
Scientists on an Ecuadorian expedition named her in 1990 after their research vessel Orión .
