Orient is a mountain village in the east of the Serra de Tramuntana on the Balearic island of Mallorca .
geography
location
Orient is ten kilometers east of Bunyola at an altitude of around 500 meters on the serpentine road PM-210, which begins at 200 meters. The island's capital, Palma , is around 27 kilometers away.
history
The historic center with old stone houses from the 14th and 15th centuries and the church of Sant Jordi from the 18th century are grouped around the 450 meter high village square. In the lower part of the village you can find the structural remains of a wash house from the time of Roman settlement.
The village with around 30 inhabitants, which belongs to the administration of the municipality of Bunyola, owes its wealth to the agricultural past with olive plantations, apple and almond plantations, sheep and goat farming. The terraces laid out on the slopes of the Moors determine the landscape between the Serra d'Alfàbia and the Puig d'Alaró .
The entire village has been a listed building since 2010 and is registered as a Bien de interés cultural (BIC).
