The Orion was a schooner of the German Jaluit Society operating in the Pacific .

history

The Orion was built in Hong Kong in 1909 by Ulderup & Schlueter for the Jaluit company. The sailing ship was used to collect copra from the coastal places where copra was obtained from the nuts of coconut trees .

During the uprising on Ponape in late 1910, the ship was confiscated by the German colonial administration of German New Guinea and armed with a machine gun and a 3.7 cm ring cannon. Off the island of Ponape , the Orion served as a guard ship for the movements of the island's inhabitants across the sea. On February 23, 1911, the schooner was returned to the Jaluit Society.

After the outbreak of World War I in August 1914, the Orion became Japanese prey. Her further fate is not known.
