Founder Ernst Friedrich Koenitzer

The Orleansfabrik EF Könitzer in Zittau , a town in the district of Görlitz in Saxony , was founded in 1846 by Ernst Friedrich Könitzer (* 1812 in Pößneck , † 1860 in Zittau) near the Mandau .

It was one of the first factories in Zittau. The former textile company was an orlean weaving mill for the production of semi-woolen fabrics from cotton and worsted yarn .

After the founder's death, the company was continued by his wife Therese († 1890), who was 19 years his junior. Later, her two sons Ernst Friedrich and Franz Friedrich (1858–1933), later city councilor and head of the Zittau volunteer fire department, also joined the company. After the death of the mother, the sons traded under the name of "Gebrüder Könitzer".

The company existed until bankruptcy in 1935. After the outbreak of the Second World War , the weaving machines were dismantled and stored, and the rooms for armaments production were confiscated.

In 1945 the grandson of the company's founder Ernst Friedrich Könitzer († 1964) managed to start contract weaving with the old machines. In 1956, the GDR entered the company with a government stake of 90 percent.

In the year Ernst Friedrich Koenitzer died, he merged with the private company Gebr. Haebler from Zittau to form the Koenitzer & Haebler silk weaving mill . In 1972 the new company was completely transferred to public ownership, which was now called "VEB Textilwerke Mülsen, Werke 10, 11 and 12" with the Alwin Schmidt spinning mill until its closure in 1991. The building was demolished in 1995.
